Snow crystal

An individual ice crystal that forms in the atmosphere and grows by deposition of water vapor, often exhibiting intricate hexagonal symmetry. These crystals are the building blocks of snowflakes and vary widely in shape depending on temperature and humidity conditions during their formation. Common forms include plates, columns, needles, and dendrites.
