Groundwater dam
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-006104
A subsurface barrier constructed across an aquifer to impede the natural flow of groundwater, thereby raising the water table upstream of the barrier. This structure is designed to store water underground, reducing evaporation losses compared to surface reservoirs. It can be built using impermeable materials like clay or concrete, or by injecting grout.
