Hydraulic barrier
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-006307
A subsurface feature with low permeability that obstructs or slows the flow of groundwater, influencing the water table and soil moisture. These barriers can be natural, such as a layer of clay or unfractured bedrock, or engineered for containment purposes. The presence of a hydraulic barrier affects the local water cycle by altering infiltration rates and the interaction between surface water and groundwater systems.
