Halmahera Eddy

A semipermanent anticyclonic ocean eddy in the western tropical Pacific, lying northeast of Halmahera Island. It influences how much Pacific water is steered south into the Halmahera Sea and the Indonesian Throughflow, and its strength and position shift with the monsoon seasons and with El Niño and La Niña. The cyclonic Mindanao Eddy lies to its northwest, off the southeastern Philippines.
