Halny wiatr

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-006157

A strong, warm, and dry foehn wind that descends the northern slopes of the Tatra Mountains in southern Poland and northern Slovakia. This wind develops when moist air is forced to rise over the mountains, releasing precipitation on the windward side and warming adiabatically as it descends the leeward side. It can cause rapid temperature increases and is often associated with a distinct cloud formation known as a foehn wall.
