Foehn phase
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-005676
A period characterized by warm, dry, and gusty winds descending the lee side of a mountain range, resulting from the adiabatic warming of air that has lost moisture on the windward side. This phase follows the ascent of moist air over the mountains and is associated with clear skies and increased temperatures in the affected region. It can lead to rapid snowmelt and increased fire danger.
