Foehn storm
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-005677
A meteorological event characterized by strong, dry, and warm foehn winds that cause widespread impacts, such as rapid temperature increases, low humidity, and high wind speeds. These storms develop when a stable air mass is forced to ascend and descend over a mountain barrier, leading to intense adiabatic warming on the lee side. They can result in substantial damage to infrastructure and vegetation.
