Foehn wave
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-005680
An atmospheric gravity wave that forms on the lee side of a mountain range when stable air flows over the topography, often associated with foehn conditions. These waves can extend vertically into the stratosphere and horizontally for hundreds of kilometers. They are responsible for the formation of lenticular clouds and can cause turbulence for aircraft.
