Foehn wall

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-005679

A bank of cloud lying over and along the crest of a mountain ridge during a foehn episode, seen as a wall from the lee side. Moist air rises, cools, and condenses on the windward slope to form the cloud, then evaporates as it descends and warms on the lee side. The wall is nearly stationary and typically lasts as long as the foehn blows.
