High foehn
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-006241
A type of foehn wind that occurs at higher altitudes, often affecting mountain peaks and ridges. This warm, dry, downslope wind results from adiabatic warming of air that has ascended and lost moisture on the windward side of a mountain barrier. High foehn conditions can lead to rapid snowmelt and increased avalanche risk in mountainous regions.
