High fog
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-006242
A type of fog that forms at an elevation above the ground surface, often appearing as a low-lying cloud layer from the perspective of an observer on the ground. It occurs when a moist air mass cools to its dew point at a certain altitude, but the air below remains clear. This phenomenon is common in mountainous regions or during strong temperature inversions, where it can obscure mountain peaks while valleys remain visible.
