Hallett-mossop process

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-006155

A mechanism for ice crystal multiplication within mixed-phase clouds, where rime ice collides with supercooled water droplets. This collision causes the droplets to freeze and shed tiny ice splinters, which then grow into new ice crystals. The process is most efficient at temperatures between -3 and -8 degrees Celsius and requires the presence of both supercooled water and ice particles.
