Inference engine

A component of an expert system or artificial intelligence system that applies logical rules and facts to deduce new information or reach conclusions. In atmospheric science, such engines can be used in decision support systems for forecasting, severe weather warnings, or climate impact assessments. They operate by processing input data against a knowledge base to generate inferences.
