Isotach analysis

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-010571

The process of constructing and interpreting a weather map that displays lines of equal wind speed, known as isotachs. This analysis is performed on a constant-pressure surface, such as the 300-millibar level, to identify areas of maximum and minimum wind speeds. The primary application of isotach analysis is locating the jet stream and jet streaks, which are cores of extremely high wind speeds.
