Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-010576

A local wind that blows through a mountain pass, called a Joch in the Alps, when air pressure differs between the valleys on its two sides. Air accelerates as it is squeezed through the gap, so pass winds of this kind are often strong and gusty in the col itself.
