Tehuantepecer

A powerful, cold, and dry northerly wind that funnels through the Chivela Pass in the Sierra Madre mountains of southern Mexico. This gap wind accelerates significantly as it descends onto the Pacific waters of the Gulf of Tehuantepec, creating hazardous marine conditions. It is a regional name for the Tehuano wind, often causing high waves and strong currents.
