A strong northerly wind of Mexico that blows in summer rather than in the cold season. The Spanish name means dead. The cold-season northerly gales of the same region are called nortes, which are outbreaks of cold continental air moving south over the Gulf of Mexico and the Isthmus of Tehuantepec, mainly between October and March.
