The transmission of information over a distance by electronic or electromagnetic means. In meteorology, this involves the collection and dissemination of weather data, forecasts, and warnings from observation sites and forecast centers to end users. Data formats such as Binary Universal Form for the Representation of meteorological data (BUFR) and GRIB are used for transmitting complex meteorological datasets.
