Mountain-gap wind
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-007430
A localized wind that accelerates as it flows through a narrow pass or gap in a mountain range. This phenomenon occurs due to the Venturi effect, where air is constricted and forced to increase its speed to maintain mass continuity. These winds can be significantly stronger and more turbulent than the surrounding flow, posing challenges for transportation and infrastructure.
