Venturi effect
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-002974
The phenomenon where a fluid flowing through a constricted section of a pipe or channel experiences an increase in velocity and a corresponding decrease in static pressure. This principle is applied in devices like carburetors and flow meters. The pressure drop is directly related to the square of the fluid's velocity increase.
The speedup of air through a constriction due to the pressure rise on the upwind side of the constriction and the pressure drop on the downwind side as the air diverges to leave the constriction.
