Layer cloud

A type of cloud characterized by its extensive horizontal development and relatively uniform base, appearing as a sheet or blanket across the sky. These clouds form when a large mass of air is lifted slowly and uniformly, leading to widespread condensation. Examples include stratus, altostratus, and nimbostratus clouds, which are classified by their altitude and precipitation characteristics.
