Source region

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-009062

A large, relatively homogeneous geographical area where air masses acquire their characteristic temperature and moisture properties. These regions are typically extensive and have uniform surface conditions, allowing air to remain over them long enough to take on their thermal and moisture characteristics. Examples include polar regions for cold, dry air and tropical oceans for warm, moist air.
