Air mass
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-000090
A large body of air, typically thousands of square kilometers in horizontal extent, that possesses relatively uniform temperature and moisture characteristics throughout its horizontal dimension. These properties are acquired from the underlying surface over which the air mass forms and resides for a period. Air masses are classified based on their source region, such as continental polar (cP) or maritime tropical (mT).
