Air mass

A large body of air, typically thousands of square kilometers in horizontal extent, that has relatively uniform temperature and humidity characteristics throughout. These properties are acquired from the surface over which the air mass forms. Air masses are classified based on their source region, such as continental polar or maritime tropical.
