Leeside convergence
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-006913
A zone on the downwind side of a mountain or island where air streams that were split around the barrier come back together, so horizontal convergence forces air to rise. The rising air can trigger cloud and shower development in an otherwise sheltered area, as in the Puget Sound convergence zone downwind of the Olympic Mountains.
