Lightning mapping system
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-006955
A network of ground-based sensors that detect electromagnetic radiation emitted by lightning discharges to determine their precise location and characteristics. These systems triangulate the signals from multiple receivers to map the three-dimensional structure and evolution of lightning within thunderstorms. Data from these systems are used for real-time storm monitoring and research.
