Sferics observation

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-008812

The detection and analysis of radio frequency electromagnetic signals, known as atmospherics, that are generated by lightning discharges. Sferics observation systems use multiple ground-based sensors to detect these signals. By analyzing the time of arrival and direction of the signals at different locations, the system can triangulate the position of the lightning strike with high accuracy over vast distances, providing real-time data for weather forecasting.
