Lightning detection network
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-006951
A system of sensors and processing centers designed to locate and characterize lightning discharges across a geographical area. These networks detect electromagnetic signals emitted by lightning, triangulating their origin and determining properties like polarity and peak current. Data from these networks are used for weather forecasting, aviation safety, and wildfire management.
