Atmospherics

Naturally occurring electromagnetic impulses, often heard as crackling or hissing sounds on radio receivers, generated by lightning discharges and other electrical phenomena in the atmosphere. These signals are a form of radio noise and can interfere with radio communications. They are also used to detect and locate lightning strikes.
