Sferics source
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-008814
A lightning discharge that emits electromagnetic radiation, detectable as sferics. These sources are transient, high-current electrical events occurring within thunderstorms, between clouds, or between a cloud and the ground. The location and intensity of these sources provide data for lightning detection networks, which map thunderstorm activity across large regions.
