Lightship station

A specific, charted geographic location in coastal or offshore waters where a lightship was anchored to serve as a navigational aid and a platform for meteorological observations. These stations provided continuous, long-term weather and sea-state data from a fixed point, contributing valuable information for forecasting, climatology, and maritime safety. Many of these historical observation records are now part of national climate data archives.
