Minimum annual flow

The lowest instantaneous or daily average discharge rate of a river or stream recorded over the course of a calendar or water year. This value is a key indicator of drought conditions and a stream's capacity to sustain aquatic ecosystems during dry periods. Hydrologists analyze long-term records of minimum annual flow to assess water availability and establish regulations for water withdrawal.
