Needle ice

A form of ice characterized by its columnar or needle-like structure, which can refer to several distinct phenomena in meteorology. It is sometimes used interchangeably with candle ice, which consists of vertical ice crystals formed during the disintegration of lake or sea ice. The term also describes frazil ice, which is a suspension of small, needle-like ice crystals in water.
