Normal curve of error
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-007593
A symmetrical, bell-shaped frequency distribution that represents the theoretical probability of a continuous random variable. The curve is centered on the mean value, and its spread is determined by the standard deviation. Many meteorological variables, such as the distribution of daily temperature anomalies or random instrument errors, approximate this distribution, making it a foundational tool for statistical analysis and quality control.
