Physical meteorology

The branch of meteorology that studies the physical processes occurring in the atmosphere, such as radiation, cloud physics, atmospheric electricity, and atmospheric optics. It applies principles of physics to understand atmospheric phenomena. This field investigates how energy is transferred, how clouds and precipitation form, and the optical properties of the atmosphere.
