Geophysics
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-001144
The study of the Earth using quantitative physical methods, encompassing phenomena such as seismic waves, gravity, magnetism, and heat flow. It applies principles of physics to understand the Earth's interior structure, composition, and dynamic processes. In atmospheric science, geophysics contributes to understanding the Earth's magnetic field interactions with the solar wind and the planet's overall energy balance.
In hydrologic terms, the study of the physical characteristics and properties of the earth; including geodesy, seismology, meteorology, oceanography,
atmospheric electricity, terrestrial magnetism, and tidal phenomena.
