Precipitation physics
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-008115
The branch of cloud physics that studies the formation, growth, and fallout of hydrometeors, including rain, snow, and hail. It examines the microphysical processes by which cloud particles grow large enough to overcome updrafts and fall to the ground. Key processes include the collision-coalescence mechanism in warm clouds and the Bergeron-Findeisen process involving ice crystals in cold clouds.
