Autoconversion

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-003718

The process in cloud physics where cloud droplets spontaneously grow large enough to become raindrops without the involvement of ice crystals. This occurs through random collisions and coalescence among droplets within a warm cloud. It is a primary mechanism for precipitation formation in tropical regions.
