Autoconvective lapse rate
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-003717
The rate at which temperature decreases with height in an atmosphere where autoconvection is occurring. This lapse rate is equal to the dry adiabatic lapse rate, approximately 9.8 degrees Celsius per kilometer. When the environmental lapse rate exceeds this value, the atmosphere is absolutely unstable.
