Collision-coalescence process
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-010439
The primary mechanism for precipitation formation in warm clouds, where cloud droplets grow by colliding and merging with other droplets. Larger droplets fall faster, sweeping up smaller droplets in their path. This process is most effective in clouds with a broad distribution of droplet sizes and temperatures above freezing, leading to the formation of raindrops.
