Snow-generating level

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-009002

The atmospheric layer within a cloud where ice crystals grow sufficiently large to fall as snow. This level is typically characterized by temperatures below freezing and the presence of supercooled water droplets and ice nuclei. The height of the snow-generating level is a key factor in determining the type of precipitation that reaches the ground.
