Generating cell
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-005900
A localized region within a cloud system where new precipitation particles are actively forming and growing. These cells are often associated with strong updrafts and high concentrations of supercooled water droplets or ice crystals. Radar observations can identify generating cells by their distinct reflectivity signatures, indicating active precipitation development.
