Genitus
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-005901
A suffix used in cloud classification to indicate that a cloud has developed from a pre-existing mother cloud, known as the genetrix. The new cloud forms either from a part of the mother cloud or from the transformation of the entire mother cloud. The name is formed by adding 'genitus' to the cloud genus, followed by the name of the mother cloud, for example, Cirrus cumulonimbogenitus, which describes cirrus clouds that have formed from the anvil of a cumulonimbus cloud.
