Mutatus

A suffix used in cloud classification to indicate that a cloud has formed through the complete or near-complete internal transformation of a pre-existing cloud of a different genus. The new cloud type replaces the old one entirely. For example, a layer of Altostratus that transforms into Nimbostratus is named Nimbostratus altostratusmutatus.
