Precipitation area
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-008104
A region in the atmosphere where precipitation is occurring and reaching the ground, as detected by instruments like weather radar. These areas are identified on radar displays by echoes, with reflectivity values typically above 15 to 20 dBZ indicating light precipitation. The size, shape, and movement of these areas are tracked to forecast the arrival and duration of rain or snow for specific locations.
