Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-008108

The total length of time that precipitation falls at a given location during a specific period. This measurement is distinct from the amount of precipitation, as light rain over a long period can have a greater duration than a heavy, short-lived downpour. It is often recorded in hours and minutes for individual events or as an accumulated total over days or months.
