Radar hydrology
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-008267
The application of weather radar data to hydrological problems, primarily for estimating and forecasting rainfall and its effects on surface water. It involves converting radar reflectivity measurements into rainfall rates using specific relationships, such as the Z-R relationship, and then inputting this spatial rainfall data into hydrological models. These models then predict river flow, flash flooding, and overall water basin response, often providing more detailed spatial coverage than a network of rain gauges alone.
