Radiation chart

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-008297

A graphical tool, or nomogram, used for calculating the transfer of infrared radiation through the atmosphere. It allows for the manual computation of radiative fluxes and heating or cooling rates by relating atmospheric variables like temperature, pressure, and water vapor content. Historical examples include the Elsasser chart and the Yamamoto radiation chart, which were developed before the advent of routine computer modeling.
