Elsasser's radiation chart

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-005350

A graphical tool used to calculate the net longwave radiation flux through atmospheric layers, particularly for water vapor and carbon dioxide. It consists of a series of curves representing the emissivity of these gases as a function of temperature and pressure. Meteorologists use this chart to estimate radiative cooling or heating rates within the atmosphere.
