Range resolution

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-002258

  1. The ability of a radar system to distinguish between two targets located at slightly different distances along the same radial path. It is determined by the duration of the transmitted pulse, with shorter pulses providing finer resolution. For example, a 1 microsecond pulse yields a range resolution of approximately 150 meters.

  2. The ability of the radar to distinguish two targets along the same radial but at different ranges. it is approximately ½ the pulse length.
